The City
London was founded in 43 AD and has managed to preserve a 2000-year architectural history. Architectural treasures from the Roman, Victorian, and Tudor periods can still be found throughout the city. There are up to four UNESCO World Heritage Sites to discover. And you're never far from a castle, a building of enormous political significance, or an architectural marvel.
The City of London is a city, ceremonial county, and local government region that contains the historic centre and serves as London's principal central business district (CBD), along with Canary Wharf. From its establishment by the Romans in the first century AD until the Middle Ages, it comprised the majority of London, but the current area known as London has since extended much beyond the City of London limit.
The city is currently only a small fraction of the Greater London metropolis, although it is still an important component of central London. Administratively, the City of London is not a borough of London, as are the other 32 districts (including Greater London's sole another city, the City of Westminster). It is also a separate ceremonial county, being an enclave bordered by Greater London, and is the United Kingdom's smallest ceremonial county.
